Avoid 3D in data-driven charts
Data-driven charts typically plot precise quantitative information. This requires that the data be delivered in a precise manner. Using 3D is not a great choice for displaying precision. As you can see in the graphic below, the top of the column is indistinct and ambiguous. Placing numeric values on top of the column instead of using the y axis is a better choice, but the values don't appear gracefully over the 3D bar.
3D is not a good style choice if the trade-off is as significant as obscure or clumsy data display.
