Concepts 120 – Books
Using the Books
There are so many way to add these graphics to a slide, but we particularly like the treatment used in the series example. Notice that the right side of the book has faded away, making a nice transition to a quote or excerpt that will be highlighted on the slide. This technique is also seen in the clipboard framework and the magnifying glass framework – a nice device. You can eliminate the quotation marks from quotes if you wish, as the text springing from the open book implies a quote or excerpt.
There are many options available within this series. You will need to determine how you want to use the frameworks/graphics before you download. Basically you'll need to look for either "png" or "emf" at the end of the name of the framework. PNGs are like photographs and cannot be edited, although they can be tinted in PowerPoint 2007. EMFs are like clipart and can be edited when ungrouped.
There are also some differences in the characteristics of the pngs. Specifically with the rows of books: v1 and v3 are grouped rows. The books in v2 and v4 and individual books. The EMF row and stack of books are individual books that have been grouped.
Customizing the Books
PNGs: to keep the same scale, hold the shift key down while sizing. EMFs: group first and then resize (hold shift key down while resizing to maintain scale).
PNGs are not eligible for color changes in PowerPoint versions prior to PowerPoint 2007. The png books, however, are drawn with degrees of transparency so that a template's background shows through, so they don't look bland.
To recolor the png books in PowerPoint 2007: click on the book, click on Format, and then click on Recolor. Then select the desired tint.
Other than recoloring png (above), a pretty drop shadow added to a grouped set of book might be nice to add features PowerPoint 2007. Don't add shadows to the emf books in PowerPoint 2003, however.
Do not add 3D to the PNGs. The books are already drawn in 3D.
Don't apply shadows to the PNGs.
Gradients, patterns, and pictures
PNGs are not eligible for this type of formatting. You can add gradients to the EMF book covers to give them dimension and enhance realism. Don't try to import pictures onto the covers, however – the images don't appear correctly.
No animation example has been included with this series. Simple reveals are best to use.
