Tutorial for Horizontal Flows 039 and 040 – Elongated Bottom

Using Horizontal Flows 039 and 040

These frameworks can be used as a variation on the flow, in that the text beneath a flow segment is included in the flow structure. The bottom sections of the flow can be adjusted to accommodate any length of text. As well, the top sections can be adjusted to accommodate their contents. Notice that the bottom section fades in the examples to the right. This is also a good way to "contain" the text without a strict definition of the graphic field.

Once you have identified the best-suited PowerFramework, download it to a specific location on your computer so you'll be able to find it (the desktop is always a good choice).

Customizing your PowerFrameworks Horizontal Flow

Adjust size

If you want to change the size/shape of the PowerFramework, be sure to group it and resize the entire group. Once resized, ungroup to proceed with other customizations. You can also adjust the space between the pieces by ungrouping and nudging them.

Color variations

Select color from your document's color palette or a complimentary color so that the PowerFramework will reflect the color scheme of the rest of your document. Select "No line" if you want to eliminate the outline of the object, or change the line point size if you want thinner or heaver lines.

3D variation

3D doesn't work really well with this framework as it tends to overpower the text within. You want the text message to be more prominent than the framework here.

Shadows

Shadows don't work really well with this framework. But if you choose to use a shadow, make sure it casts very close to the framework and that the ordering of the elements of the framework is correct according to the direction of the shadow being cast.

Gradients, patterns, and pictures

Gradients are a good effect for this type of framework. The example above is particularly effective.

Animations

Animations of flows should be restricted to wipes, peak in, crawl in, fly in, etc., from the left or right to show a build and to enhance the effect of the flow. You can also just reveal text onto the framework as a means of animation.
