It's important first to understand how the pendulums and gauges are constructed so that you will understand how the animation works. We'll use the pendulum as the example for all of these types of animation schemes: they all work the same. A pendulum is actually a group. The reason the pendulum needs to be a group is so it will spin (swing) correctly. The spin animation can only spin an object around the center/middle point of the object. Adding the counterpoint forces the pivot point of the pendulum to center/middle of the group, which is the correct pivot point.
Animation can be set so that the pendulum swings in one direction and then the next until the story is told. It
is very easy to set the animation spin percentages and directions that
allow the pendulum to swing in both directions with precision. It is a
little bit of a trial-and-error effort to get the pendulum to swing with precision on the grid, however.
As explained above, the pendulum is part of a group, which has a counterpoint so that the fulcrum for the pendulum is right where it needs to be in order for the spin animation to work correctly. Follow the instructions below to animate the pendulum to swing.
Note: notice in the instruction above that you have to press the "Enter" key for the new spin percentage to be set – this is important. Now
the pendulum will swing on its pivot point with a click in slide show mode. At this point you can regulate the speed of the swing and delays and any other more commonly used animation effects. Repeat the animation process if you want the pendulum to swing back in the opposite direction and land on a measurement point. You can let the pendulum
do your talking as it goes from one measurement or category to the next on clicks.
