DE035 – Recessed/Raised Bevel – Rectangle – Dark

Sometimes a design element can actually convey a concept. The series example is a good example of how the raised and recessed bevels can illustrate opposites. These design elements can also be used to convey complete and incomplete: the back (recessed) and the front (raised) bevels combined create a complete object. The unanimated slide does the job, but it really comes alive when animation is added (see the downloadable animation example for a possible animation scheme).

These bevels were developed to work with templates with medium-to-dark backgrounds (use DE036 for light-to-medium backgrounds). When used with photos underneath, you can use any background you like. They are developed in 1/2" increments so that minimal manual sizing is necessary. This is important because consistently sized bevel depths create the best, professional results. There is only one download, which encourages you to easily select the appropriately sized bevels when developing your presentations. Therefore, the download is larger than most other PowerFrameworks downloads, so it may take a little extra time to complete the download.

The bevels can be used to show a recessed field or a raised field. They can also be used as design bevels. Place a photo under the bevel and you get a very finished, polished look (as in the series example). You can also use the recessed and raised bevels to illustrate emptiness and fill (as in the Chart of the Month for September 2008).

If you are using PowerPoint 2007, the bevels can be tinted, as you would tint a photograph. Review the tutorial for more tips on using and formatting these bevels.
