Using the Flowers
These flowers are visual analogies for a central object and offshoots. The series example uses the flowers to illustrate management structures of a company. The circle in the center of each framework is scalable, which enables you to create the desired "relationship" between the center object and the offshoots. A small center indicates minimal management interaction and great authority within the departments.
Other visual analogies that can be illustrated with the flowers are ideas that "blossom" into being, multiple entities surrounding or protecting a central entity, different numbers or sizes of petals that indicate growth stemming from the center object, etc.
Customizing the Flowers
If you want to change the size/shape of the PowerFramework, be sure to group it and resize the entire group. Once resized, ungroup to proceed with other customizations.
The center circle/object can be sized to reflect the appropriate relationship between the "one" (center) to the "many" (petals).
Select color from your document's color palette or a complimentary color so that the PowerFramework will reflect the color scheme of the rest of your document. Select "No line" if you want to eliminate the outline of the object, or change the line point size if you want thinner or heaver lines. It's probably better to use two different colors or the same color with a slight variation for the petals and the center object, otherwise the two will blend together and become indistinct. You may want to use a line the same color as the background to separate the petals from the center.
The bevels look nice if you're using PowerPoint 2007, but stay away from 3D boxy-looking formatting. It detracts from the concept.
Shadows look good with this framework. Be sure the layering/ordering of the pieces of the frameworks are correct according to the direction of the shadow. The shadows in PowerPoint 2007 look especially nice.
Gradients, patterns, and pictures
Use gradient, patterns, and pictures however you wish. There are not a lot of limitations with these frameworks. The center circle/object looks nice with an imported photograph or an icon.
Animate the the petals as a zoom behind the center: they will look like the are "sprouting" from the center object. Otherwise, simple reveals such as fades and wipes if there aren't too many petals will work nicely.
