Working with data-driven templates
Does it matter which data-driven chart template I download ? "Download PowerPoint" or "Download 2007 PPT File"?
Yes, it matters. If you are using PowerPoint 2007, the data-driven charts are driven by Excel – the underlying worksheet that contains the data for the chart. If you are using pre-PowerPoint 2007 versions, the data-driven charts are driven by Microsoft Graph. Microsoft Graph has always had limitations. PowerPoint 2007 offers a tremendous upgrade by employing Excel as the underlying worksheet for data-driven charts.
Who should download what?
- Pre-PowerPoint 2007 users – click on "Download PowerPoint"
- PowerPoint 2007 users – click on "Download 2007 PPT File"
You have some latitude, however. Microsoft has made available a free download to help bridge the gap between PowerPoint 2007 and recent previous versions of PowerPoint – Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Click here to be taken to the Microsoft site to download the compatibility pack. It's best to work in native application formats, however.
Data-driven charts are only available to subscribers.
